One of the many positive and inspirational character traits of Mariana is her ability to solve the immediate problem, look ahead of the current situation and intuitively calculate the probable conclusion. Simply put, it is Mariana's problem solving skills that have helped many businesses and individuals reach greater goals --myself included.
Unrelenting Perseverance
In the Summer of 2003, what seemed to be an insurmountable problem was handed down by the titans of the software industry. A lawsuit won by Sun Microsystems prohibited Microsoft from using JAVA. This directly affected our own company, as our previous platform was built on a JAVA / PERL hybrid. If we decided to remain in the business, we would be required to write JAVA out of our software.
At the time, our software company was primarily oriented towards automotive dealerships. Mariana insisted that we should not depend on a single industry. "We must develop a program that can adapt itself to every business". The mere thought of writing a software program with fluid variables seemed unfathomable to me. The idea that anything catastrophic could ever happen to eighty percent of our car dealership clientele seemed equally improbable.
It was Mariana and her unrelenting perseverance that we seized the moment as a positive opportunity to create something quite new. Her foresight and attitude saved not only our business, but my own personal fortune and livelihood as well.
It would be inaccurate to claim that Mariana predicted the problems that plagued the automotive industry in 2008 --four years ahead of schedule. In truth, Mariana had and still has the unique ability to see the plethora of outcomes from each decision, and the wisdom to choose the best path forward.
